GUIDED QUARRY WALKS

IMG_0803

Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Save Our Magnificent Meadows team collaborated with the step in stone project to deliver four guided walks in July and August.  While being inspired by art installations in unique surroundings, we explored the grasslands at a micro and macro scale with ecologist and artist guides. There are no more of these particular events in September and October. For more information about Somerset Wildlife Trust and the Save Our Magnificent Meadows project visit somersetwildlife.org/events

WORKSHOPS/ARTISTS

FIONA CAMPBELL
Fiona’s work reflects an interest in our relationship with the natural world, nature’s cyclical persistence and the essence of life. Fiona’s drawings inform mixed media sculptural pieces wrought as primal, nest-like structures, often as 3d drawings in space, using found and recycled materials.

Workshop: Wirework – forms inspired by nature
HALF DAY: Tuesday 6th October, 9.30am – 1pm at Black Swan Arts, Round Tower Gallery BA11 1BB

Fiona Campbell - Vertical (detail)

A chance to explore 2-d and 3-d work in wire, recycled and found materials.  Suitable for all ages from 8 years old upwards.

Participants will explore concepts around the theme of quarries, their re-colonisation by nature and fossils from the carboniferous period.   From imagery and resources provided, (eg. silver birch seeds, fossils and catkins), students will experiment with a range of techniques to create small 2-d or 3-d pieces for your garden or interior.  Initial line drawings will lead to a simplfied design for your wire template.  Various wires will be used to make your final piece.  A range of skills will be taught – from design to wirework.  For more decorative results other recycled materials may be added. All materials will be provided. Suitable for all abilities.

Held at the Black Swan Arts Centre, there will be an opportunity to explore the centre and our exhibition there.

SUZIE GUTTERIDGE
A multi media artist. Passion, protection & preservation of the environment inspires her work. Using traditional and modern techniques she incorporates natural, found and man-made materials – clay, paper, felt and fabrics. Suzie is an experienced educator, Arts Award Advisor and Young Curators Facilitator.

HALF DAY: Tuesday 13th October, 9.30am – 1pm at Black Swan Arts, Round Tower Gallery BA11 1BB

Participants will have the experience of working with wool and stones. These two materials relate to a long historical association with the Mendip area .

During the workshop, the traditional process of welt felting (using wool, soap and water) will be explained and demonstrated. The resulting felted objects of differing shapes and sizes can then be taken home.

Held at BSA, there will be an opportunity to explore the centre and our exhibition there.
